Tourism Highway Signing Program

Until 2004, Alberta’s tourism signing system was organized according to categories developed in the 1980s. The Tourism Highway Signing Program project was initiated in that same year to update the appearance of and information pertaining to the province’s tourism industry. Every day remote towns and counties take steps to provide citizens with the same life saving services offered in larger hubs. Rural addressing involves mapping out remote areas and residences so they are accessible using Global Positioning Systems (GPS).
